About the Program

   The Minor in Music - Composition & Sound Design is for any student who would like to seriously hone their composition skills. 


Focus of Study

   This minor provides three semesters of Music Theory, one semester of Electronic and Computer Music, plus electives in Audio Engineering and Film Scoring


Program Requirements

Minimum Minor Requirements

  • 20 credit hours within Music
  • 9 upper-division credit hours (3000-4999 level)
  • 2.0 Minor GPA (grade of C or better in any course counted toward the minor)
  • Residency: Last 11 credit hours of the minor must be completed while registered at UCCS

NOTE: Speak with an academic advisor to declare a minor.

Requirements for the Minor in Music Composition & Sound Design:

  • MUS 1010 - Music Theory I: Systems of Pitch and Representation
  • MUS 1030 - Aural Skills I (1 credit hour)
  • MUS 2010 - Music Theory II: Styles of Counterpoint
  • MUS 2030 - Sight Singing and Ear Training II (1 credit hour)
  • MUS 2150 - Electronic and Computer Music I
  • MUS 3010 - Music Theory III: Sound in Time, from Rhythm to Form
  • Complete 6 hours of Music electives from the following list: MUS 3200, MUS 3500, MUS 3700, VAPA 3950
