About the Program

For any student who wants a well-rounded Music experience with opportunities to perform and develop their practical skills while receiving coursework in theory and exposure to a variety of musical styles and genres.


Focus of Study

The General Music Minor combines a solid introduction to music theory along with plenty of lower and upper-division elective options


Program Requirements

  • 19 credit hours within Music
  • 9 upper-division credit hours (3000-4999 level)
  • 2.0 Minor GPA (grade of C or better in any course counted toward the minor)
  • Residency: Last 10 credit hours of the minor must be completed while registered at UCCS

  • MUS 1010 - Music Theory I: Systems of Pitch and Representation
  • MUS 1030 - Aural Skills I (1 credit hour)
  • MUS 1600 - Applied Music: Private Instruction (1 credit hour)

Complete (1) of the following courses:

  • MUS 2150
  • MUS 2850
  • MUS 2950
Music Ensemble Electives 2 Credit Hours

Complete 2 hours of Ensemble electives (1 hour each) from the following list:

Note: Ensemble courses must be completed at UCCS.

Note: MUS 2150 is a prerequisite for MUS 3200
