Focus of Study
The foundation of this minor degree is ensembles and private lessons, along with Music Theory and a generous dose of electives.
Program Requirements
Minimum Minor Requirements
- 21 credit hours within Music
- 9 upper-division credit hours (3000-4999 level)
- 2.0 Minor GPA (grade of C or better in any course counted toward the minor)
- Residency: Last 12 credit hours of the minor must be completed while registered at UCCS
NOTE: Speak with an academic advisor to declare a minor.
Program Coursework
The Minor in Creative Music Performance requires the following coursework:
Core courses
- MUS 1010 - Music Theory 1: Systems of Pitch and Representation
- MUS 1030 - Aural Skills I (1 credit hour)
Private lessons: Complete 4 credit hours of private instruction
- MUS 1600 – Applied Music -Private Instruction (Freshman level)
- MUS 2600 – Private Instruction: Advanced (Sophomore level)
Note: Applied Lessons must be taken at UCCS. Refer to the Private Lessons webpage for instructions on how to register for MUS 1600 & 2600.
Ensemble courses
- Complete 4 credit hours of Ensemble courses from the following list: MUS 1200, 2250, 2300, 2310, 2400, 4300
Note: Ensemble courses must be taken at UCCS.
Upper-division Music Electives
- Complete 9 credit hours of Music upper division electives from the following list: MUS 3150, 3850, 4250, 4750
