VAPA Scholarships
The Visual and Performing Arts Department has two scholarships available for any student who has declared Visual and Performing Arts as their major, regardless of concentration.
General Department Scholarships
Application Deadline: March 1
Award Amount: $1,000
The VAPA Department Scholarship Fund provides scholarship support to continuing students studying Visual and Performing Arts at UCCS. Although not renewable, previous recipients are encouraged to reapply for the award.
Supplemental Questions:
- Provide a scholarly or creative work statement. (100-300 words)
- Specifically, describe the background of your course of study and how you emphasize the importance of research, scholarship or creative work to your disciplinary practice. A MAXIMUM OF 300 WORDS is allowed. Essays will be ranked based on artistic or scholarly intent, content, length, and composition including grammar, spelling, organized structure, and attention to detail. You are encouraged to write an essay that captures the attention of the reader by using rich and interesting language.

Award Amount: $1,000
“The Arts Experience” offers awards of up to $1000 to support travel that enables students to complete creative projects, research, art-specific workshops, and internships (or similar). These projects should constitute a significant educational experience for the applicant. Proposals should describe the intent and objectives of the project and show how this project will enhance, transform, and support the growth of the applicant. Examples of fitting projects include the completion of location-based study, archival research, experiencing arts/performance, creative works; or a combination of these. Interdisciplinary projects in the spirit of VAPA are especially welcome.
Requirements
Applicants must be undergraduate VAPA majors, currently enrolled, and meeting academic expectations. Projects must be completed before the completion of the degree. Funds must be spent by the end of the following academic year.
Proposal
- A project abstract (250 words)
- Answer the following questions:
- How will this project benefit your personal and professional trajectory?
- How do you envision using these funds?
- What are the potential outcomes?
- Curriculum Vitae
- Proposed Budget (see example below)
*If the project is dependent upon acceptance into a program, internship, or workshop, please submit a letter of acceptance or current proof of application. Awarding of funds will be dependent on eventual acceptance.

Public Presentation
After completion of the project, awardees must offer a public presentation, event, exhibition, concert, lecture-demo, screening, performance, community-interactive event, etc. that demonstrates the value of the experience and shares that value with the community. Public presentations must be completed by the end of the following academic year.

Visual Art Scholarships
Application Deadline: March 1
Award Amount: $1,000
The Jeniel Harris Visual Art Scholarship is a need-based award for students pursuing a degree in Visual Art. Awards are granted based on artistic merit and given to Visual Art concentrations with financial need. Women over the age of 30 are especially encouraged to apply for this award.
Typically one $1,000 award is made per year. Although not renewable, previous recipients are encouraged to reapply for the award.

The Suzy Weinert Scholarship is a need-based award for Colorado Springs resident students pursuing a degree in Visual Art in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts and entering their junior or senior year. Awards are granted based on artistic merit and given to Visual Art concentrations with financial need. Women especially are encouraged to apply for this award.
Scholarship awards range from $500-$1,000. Although not renewable, previous recipients are encouraged to reapply for the award.
To qualify, you must complete your FAFSA by March 1st to be eligible.
