About
Cheri Orr grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, receiving classical training in ballet, modern, jazz, and tap dance under the direction of Victoria Fedine, Gayle Corkery, Julie Ballew, and Dian Clough West. She performed with Danse Vivant, Corkery Youth Ballet, and in many musical theater productions. Cheri graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Belhaven University in Jackson, MS. She was the founding president of Belhaven's DOXA dance club and danced with Ballet Magnificat! II and Belhaven Dance Ensemble during her time there. At Belhaven, she had the opportunity to work with Kathy Thibodeaux, Rick Faucher, Lauri Worrill-Biggs, Stephen Wynne, Randall Flinn, and Marc Arentsen. Cheri is also a certified Pilates Instructor and has been teaching ballet, modern dance, creative movement, and Pilates for various dance studios, schools, churches, corporate offices, hospitals, and wellness centers in the Colorado Springs community for over 2 decades. In 2022, Cheri was awarded Belhaven University’s distinguished Arts Excellence Alumni Award for her professional career and service to her community.
Currently, Cheri is a company dancer with Ormao Dance Company and also teaches Dance for Parkinson’s classes in the company’s outreach program. She is also the founder of the nonprofit, Jubilee Arts Collective, a catalyst for hope and transformation in underserved populations through the collaborative work of performing and visual artists in missional community. Cheri is the Artistic Director of Jubilee Dance Company which takes dance performance and workshops into unlikely spaces including trauma treatment centers, detention centers, correctional facilities, transitional housing, and all-abilities communities, offering restoration through the arts.
Cheri is passionate to teach the joy of movement, technical skill, and healthy body mechanics to eager students, and is thrilled to share this passion at UCCS.
