Faculty Highlights

Robert von Dassanowsky, professor, Department of Languages and Cultures and Department of Visual and Performing Arts; and director, Film Studies Program, VAPA; has published “Screening Transcendence: Film under Austrofascism and the Hollywood Hope 1933-1938,” based on more than a decade of research on the cinematic politics between Vienna, Berlin and Hollywood during the 1930s, leading up to the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany in 1938.

Independent film producer Robert von Dassanowsky, professor, Department of Languages and Cultures and Department of Visual and Performing Arts; and director, Film Studies Program, VAPA; scored critical success in co-producing the Austrian documentary film “Der Bauer zu Nathal” (The Farmer of Nathal). The film was directed by Matthias Greuling and David Baldinger.

Robert von Dassanowsky, professor, Languages and Cultures Department, and Visual and Performing Arts Department, was recently appointed affiliate core faculty for cinema and central European studies at the Global Center of Advanced Studies, an Ireland-based not-for-profit research institute that also offers seminars in large cities in the U.S. and Europe. Founding Director Creston Davis announced the appointment.

Nationally renowned theater professionals from both coasts and in between will converge at UCCS Sept. 18, 2016 to discuss a critical theme in theater circles—women constitute more than 60 percent of theatergoers but write fewer than 25 percent of U.S. plays produced.

An English translation of an Austrian playwright’s work by Robert von Dassanowsky, professor, Department of Languages and Cultures and Department of Visual and Performing Arts, was presented in a staged dramatic reading Dec. 1, 2016 at the Austrian Cultural Forum New York Theater.

Fernando Feliu-Moggi, associate professor, Department of Languages and Cultures, and Edgar Cota Torres, associate professor, Department of Languages and Cultures, recently presented the first four volumes of a joint publishing venture between UCCS and the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (Mexico)  at the Sixth Annual Four Corners Conference Oct. 24 and 25, 2014 at UCCS.

"Felix Austria!" a feature documentary produced by Robert Dassanowsky, professor, Department of Visual and Performing Arts and Department of Languages and Cultures, was awarded the Colorado Spotlight Award at the 7th annual Indie Spirit Film Festival at the event’s finale Oct. 19.

Robert von Dassanowsky, professor, Department of Languages and Cultures, and Visual and Performing Arts, recently received a 2014-15 Dietrich W. Botstiber Foundation’s Institute for Austrian-American Studies grant.

Fernando Feliu-Moggi, associate professor, Department of Languages and Cultures, presented  “Roberto Cabrera in Guatemalan Visual Arts” March 24, 2014 at Casa de Cervantes, the leading cultural center in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Robert Dassanowsky, professor, Department of Languages and Cultures and Department of Visual and Performing Arts, was recently appointed to the Board of Advisors of the Salzburg Institute in Austria as of February 2014.

Robert Dassanowsky, professor, Departments of Visual and Performing and Languages and Cultures, was elected to voting membership in the European Film Academy in recognition of significant central European cinema scholarship and film work. The transnational organization presented the European “Academy Awards” Dec. 7, 2013 in Berlin.

A feature documentary co-produced by Robert Von Dassanowsky, professor, Department of Languages and Cultures and Department of Visual and Performing Arts, will be shown April 27, 2013 as part of the Hot Docs Canadian International Film Festival.

Robert von Dassanowsky, professor, Department of Languages and Cultures and Department of Visual and Performing Arts was a keynote presenter on the reception of the Danube in Austrian and Central European film at “The Black and Blue Danube Symposium” on the campus of Colgate University, Hamilton, N.Y., March 1-2, 2013.

Robert von Dassanowsky, professor,  Department of Languages and Cultures and Department of Visual and Performing Arts, has been invited to present at the Project Director’s Conference of the European Union’s Directorate General for Education and Culture in Brussels, March 21-23, 2012.

Robert von Dassanowsky, professor, Department of Languages and Cultures, and Department of Visual and Performing Arts, recently co-edited “The Nameable and the Unnameable: Hofmannsthal’s ‘Der Schwierige’ Revisited” published by Iudicium, Munich.

Robert von Dassanowsky, professor, Languages and Cultures and Visual and Performing Arts, was recently elected vice president of the Modern Austrian Literature and Culture Association, the international academic organization for Austrian studies. He will take office April 7, 2011 during the Association’s annual conference at Washington and Jefferson College, Washington, PA.

Robert von Dassanowsky, professor, Languages and Cultures and Visual and Performing Arts, was recently selected as the external reviewer of an Atlantis Program’s Grant for Virginia Commonwealth University’s transatlantic master’s degree in foreign language and film studies.
